Museum Night at the Sonnabend Collection Mantova
On the occasion of Museum Night, scheduled for Saturday, October 17th, the Sonnabend Collection Mantova is offering special extended evening hours at Palazzo della Ragione with a rich evening program designed for all visitors.
The Collection will be open from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM (last ticket office entry at 9:00 PM), providing an immersive experience well into the evening. Two guided tours are scheduled during the evening, at 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM, to explore the relationship between nature and contemporary art.
“From Life to Reality” is a journey across different eras and languages to discover how the relationship between art and nature evolves.
While during the Renaissance and the Baroque period nature was studied in order to understand, imitate, and represent it on canvas, the contemporary artists of the Sonnabend Collection work directly with raw materials, transforming the natural element into a work of art.
In Arte Povera, in particular, matter takes center stage: Jannis Kounellis and Gilberto Zorio use stone, iron, earth, fire, and charcoal. Nature is no longer simply represented; instead, it enters the artwork with all its physical and sensory energy.
And just as Leonardo studied geology, watercourses, and rock structures, Land Art artists such as Christo intervene directly upon the landscape. Similarly, from the natural world of Arcimboldo we arrive at Pop Art, where fruits, foods, and flowers become artificial and mass-produced, highlighting the contrast between organic nature and consumer culture.
